A Recipe, A Workout List, and a Confession

Thank you to everyone who commented on last Friday’s blog post! I’m glad so many of you enjoyed it. I’ve had several requests for the salsa recipe and for a list of some of the different things I do for my own workouts. I’ll include that information at the end of this post.

Only a few short hours after writing my last post, I had a great workout, followed by an even more fantastic pizza. Life is all about keeping things in balance, right? I share that with you because, again, I want to encourage you to give yourself a break. Take care of yourself, absolutely, but do it while continuing to do the things that bring a smile to your face. For me, last Friday, that included sitting at home with my hubby and sharing a pizza. How do you go about finding more balance in your life? Post a comment or send me an email; I’d love to hear from you!

Mango Guacamole From Taste of Home Magazine, Feb./Mar. 2014

3 medium ripe avocado, peeled and chopped
1 large mango, peeled and chopped
1 large tomato, chopped
1 small red onion, chopped
1/4 C chopped fresh cilantro
3 TB lime juice
1 tsp. salt

In a large bowl, toss together ingredients and serve with tortilla chips. Enjoy!

My Workout Recommendations:

I like to incorporate a wide variety into my workouts to keep them fun and fresh. The only thing I do consistently is yoga. I’ve gone to classes in the past, but now that I have two small children I mostly follow videos or a routine of my own. Here are some of my favorite workout DVDs:

Denise Austin’s Personal Training System
Yoga Conditioning for Athletes with Rodney Yee
A.M. Yoga for Your Week with Rodney Yee
Mandy Ingber’s Yogalosophy (my favorite!)
Denise Austin’s Yoga Body Burn

And for anyone who might be pregnant:
Heather Seiniger’s Yoga Pregnancy (Pre and Post Natal)
Yoga for you Pregnancy with Kristen Eykel
Prenatal Yoga with Desi Bartlett

Two other resources I rely heavily on are the amazing workouts from fitsugar.com and workouts from the magazine, Women’s Health. I love using these resources to create workouts that fit my personal fitness goals. In particular, they help me incorporate free weights and cardio into my routine. In the summer I will also run, but it has to be pretty warm for me to hit the pavement…I’m a fair-weather-friend with running!

As always, do what is right for you and your body when it comes to fitness. These are just some of the tools I use. What do you do to stay in shape?

  1. Thanks for posting exercises for us pregos 🙂 I keep wanting to do some yoga but wasn’t sure (besides a few moves) what was safe!

    1. Absolutely! I’d be happy to let you borrow those three DVD’s if you’d like to try them. I did prenatal yoga every day with my last pregnancy and it really helped with some of the “growing pains” :-).
