Mike and I are excited beyond words to be taking our boys on our first family vacation next week. And not just anywhere, we are going to the BEACH!!! Yay! (Cue lots of cartwheels, high kicks, fist pumping and wild grinning.)
This has been such a crazy, stressful, roller coaster of a year for my family, and this beach vacation couldn’t be coming at a better time. I can’t wait to sit on the beach with a book and a pile of snacks and watch my boys wiggle their toes in the sand. I can’t wait to watch Mike walk Theo and Oliver out into the ocean – the ocean! – for their very first time. I can’t wait to spend afternoons by the pool. I can’t wait to cook dinner together each evening, with our skin sun kissed and our hair salty from the sea and relation just oozing out of our pores.
It’s gonna be so great!
We’ve heard from a lot of people that the key to vacationing with little ones it to keep your expectations and your itinerary simple. We’ve taken that advice and are planning on pretty much nothing other then going to the beach and pool daily. Whatever else we can make happen, great. All that really matter to us, though, is taking this opportunity to get away together as a family.
I’ve been mentally planning this trip for months, and now it’s finally almost here! I’ve been creating lists, scouring stores for the best deals, and stocking up on beach essentials. Today, I’d like to share with you our packing list for a beach vacation.
beach chairs (we found ours at Aldi)
beach towels, blankets
beach tent (we ordered ours from Amazon)
beach toys: squirt guns, sand castle building toys, beach wagon
cooler, water bottles, thermos (if you are a coffee drinker like we are!)
wet bag (I’m taking my wet bag we use for our cloth diapers to hold wet clothes, towels, etc.)
beach hats, sunglasses, swim suits and sun shield shirts for kids
beach shoes/water shoes for the kiddos:
snacks. I suggest:
crackers, graham crackers
hummus, pita chips
PB & J sandwiches (made in advance)
We haven’t decided if we are taking our stroller or wagon. We will definitely take our Beco baby carrier for Oliver, but I’m not sure I want to lug anything else along. Other than that, I think we are set! What do you think? Are we leaving anything important out?
