It might still be a mean 90 degrees here in Northeastern Ohio, but the calendar reads September which means it is time to start looking at the fall fashion trends. I’ve been pretty excited by what’s been coming out lately from the fashion world and, with a few exceptions, I’m ready to embrace the 70’s fabulousness that is on point for fall 2015. Let’s take a look at some of this season’s best trends.
For 2015, the colors to embrace are neutrals and earth tones. I love, neutrals and earth tones. There are also a few groovy, bold colors thrown in for good measure, but I’m mostly going to pretend I didn’t see that.
This is the year of the big and floppy: oversized sunnies and and floppy, wide brim hats are where it’s at. I happen to rock those no matter the trend, so it’s nice to be back in style ;-).
Who doesn’t love a great pair of boots? This year it seems to be about the two extremes, ie the short little booties and tall boots. Nothing mid-calf which, thankfully, excludes cowboy boots.
I love Stevie Nicks as much as the next girl, but I don’t think I’ll be rocking the fringed jacket/skirt/dress anytime soon. I do like to accessorize with a bit of fringe, though. The tassels on my purse are just enough fringe-tastic for me.
Ok, so we’ve all seen a million Pinterest outfits with the over-the-cardigan belted look. Been there, done that. This season, however, it’s about bringing belts back to their proper place – the belt loop. That’s right ladies, fall 2015 is all about the clean, tucked in shirt with a belt around your waist look. I’m not sure how soon I’ll be able to pull this look off, what with currently having zero waist to speak of and soon I’ll have more waist than ever, but we’ll see how things go. Here’s hoping.
Breezy Dresses in Bold Prints
I love breezy dresses, but I tend to be more of a plain print kinda gal. Who knows, maybe I’ll get brave…
And now, a look at some of the worst:
No. You will not find me wearing a suede skirt, no matter how cute Taylor Swift looks in one. (Although I do have a pair of suede boots that I’ve held on to since high school. Maybe I’ll give those a try again since both suede and tall boots are back in…)
Double no; One for each, awful, continuous pant leg that extends all the way up to your neck.
I like my skinnies, thank you very much!
I can barely walk barefoot. Saying “no” to this one is more of a survival instinct than a fashion choice.
And there you have it! My fall fashion report, over and out!
PS The dresses were part of my winter capsule wardrobe from last year. If you’d like to read more about how I put together my winter capsule, you can do so here. If you want to read more about fall accessories, you can do so here.
