Every year, close to Halloween, Theo helps me prepare a treat and together, Theo, Oliver, and I dress up for Halloween and deliver the treats to family and friends. It is absolutely the most fun tradition we have and I look forward to it every year.
Because this tradition requires quite a bit of running around and a decent amount of planning, I keep the treat simple. Plus, part of what makes this so fun is including the boys in every step of the process. Last year, we did slice and bake sugar cookies. This year, I used my friend Whitney’s recipe for three ingredient pumpkin muffins (you’ll find the recipe under her breakfast menu). The goal is to keep things easy enough that Theo and I can make the snack together without too much stress or time so that we can get right to the fun part – the deliveries!
This year Oliver was a pirate and Theo was a monkey. I also keep the costumes simple because, let’s be honest, I could put these kids in anything and it would be adorable. I’ve found that Goodwill is an absolute goldmine for costumes. I’ll let other moms go to Old Navy and pay $30 for a costume and then I’ll snatch it up the following year for $6 ;-). For myself, I didn’t go all out this year because I’m super pregnant and didn’t feel like putting the energy or money into something. A cute Dollar Tree mask did the trick for me! (Theo called me a “mommy kangaroo, lol.)
This year we made deliveries to my OB office, my parents, both of my grandparents, and Mike. We had plans to stop to see a few other family members and friends, but I had to call it a day. The combination of being incredibly pregnant and hauling two boys in and out of car seats did me in. But. It was so worth it! Take a look at our day of fun:
