This All-Natural Soda

I’m not a pop drinker. It really, really makes me feel gross. But every now and then, I want something carbonated to go along with our evening show and snack. I found these Blue Sky sodas at Big Lots recently and they hit the spot. They don’t have any dyes, high fructose corn syrup, or artificial flavoring in them and are pretty delicious.

This Pumpkin Bread Recipe

I made my own pumpkin puree from a fresh pumpkin for the first time recently, and one of the things I used the puree to make was this pumpkin bread recipe. The only modification I made to the recipe was to use 1/4 white flour, 3/4 whole wheat, and I reduced the white sugar from 3/4 cup to just under 1/2 cup.

To roast a pumpkin for puree, simple slice your pumpkin in half and roast in a 350 degree oven for about an hour, or until tender. Then, peel the skin off and puree the flesh!

**Sigh**Theo is such a character. He really makes me laugh. Although, I can laugh more at this picture now than I did at the time. Sometimes you just want them to put on their dang shoes…

This Parenting ummm “Trick”

One day, the boys were so fussy and constantly at each other’s throats. I really, really needed them to take a bath without them destroying the bathroom or each other. The solution? Popsicles. 10 minutes of near silence and bath time achieved with little incident. I’ll put that in the “win” column, thank you very much.

Sometimes you just need to schedule a coffee date with a friend. It can really be the deciding factor between totally losing your mind that week and keeping it all together.

This Shirt

I have this old Volcom t-shirt that, for me, is my version of the jeans from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. This shirt somehow always fits no matter what size I am and is always comfortable. How is that possible? I’m almost nine months pregnant, and it’s not even a maternity top. Magic.

This Fun New Experience

We have a really great dentist, and his entire staff is so wonderfully nice. They recently asked Theo to be in a little promotional commercial and it was such a fun experience. The fact that Theo loves going to the dentist and was 100% relaxed and comfortable during the shoot speaks volumes to the type of people who work at the office. He was so cute to watch! At the end, he was disappointed when he realized it wasn’t a “real appointment,” so they ended up giving him a quick cleaning. Too funny!

This Not-So-Fun New Experience

On one of our hardest days this week, Oliver locked himself in my bedroom not once, but twice. We have an old door and knob, so I wasn’t sure how to get him out. I knew that if I called Mike at school on his work phone he would think I was in labor, so I called my dad who works 10 minutes away. He came right over and helped get Oliver out.

While I sat outside my room, waiting on my dad to arrive, I tried to engage Oliver from the other side of the door. I was worried he would realize he was trapped and get scared, and I was worried he would get into my dressing table and wreak havoc on my make-up.

He never got scared, but after awhile he got tired of talking to me and before long, I heard him rummaging through my table. Oh, what a feeling to know that your kids are up to no good and there is nothing you can do about it!

When my dad came and got Oliver out, he emerged with black eyeliner allllll over his face, but fortunately he didn’t take my lipstick and try to write on our furniture (he did that once before).

There are so many things outside of our control, especially with our kids. I’m not always the best at rolling with the punches, especially when it seems like the punches are coming one right after another. But really, stressing over every little thing only makes us miserable. I was frustrated with the whole kid-locked-behind-a-door situation, but everything was eventually resolved with little harm so what else can you do but laugh?

I mean, after all, Oliver came out laughing. He knew he was up to no good and was giggling mischievously when he came out of my room. What’s that saying? If you can’t beat em, join em?

  1. Bless your heart. I have to admit that I laughed out loud picturing Oliver emerging from your room with the eyeliner on his face. But I am sure it wasn’t so funny in the moment. And it wasn’t MY eyeliner he wasted. 🙂 I’m glad your dad was able to come rescue you/Oliver!

I love that picture of you in your magic shirt. You look so cute with your hair up like that! Hang in there friend, I hope next week is much smoother and features no children locked in rooms. 🙂

    1. I have to admit, I have a hard time with my stuff getting destroyed. Four 1/2 years into motherhood and it doesn’t get any easier, especially when it’s my make up! But, everything is replaceable :-), so I try to take it in stride ;-).
Thanks for the compliment and the kind words, my friend!
