Our Ohio Bucket List: Blue Hen Falls

My family and I hail from northeast Ohio, and we love getting out together to hike, explore, and have our little adventures. I love sharing these experiences with you! As we continue to get out and about, I’ll come back to His Girl Friday to share these spots that you should add to your Ohio Bucket List. I love hearing your suggestions on places we should visit, so keep them coming! But rest assured, I’ll only recommend Ohio Bucket List items that I’ve personally experienced and enjoyed. I’m also still compiling our family’s Fall Bucket List, so lots of good things are heading your way!

I’ve also had a reader request to share how my family goes hiking with three little ones. Be on the lookout for that post next week, which I’ll be partnering with Summit Metro Parks to bring you. In the mean time, take a look at our recent hiking trip to Blue Hen Falls in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and add it to your Ohio Bucket List!

The trail that leads to Blue Hen Falls in  easy to navigate and pretty short. Before you know it, you start to hear the water from the falls. The falls is beautiful. We hiked down to the stream bed to get a better look and to do some exploring, and of course, the boys quickly got soaked. But that is part of the fun :-).

The rest of the trails are moderately difficult, but still fun to hike. We didn’t over do it that day, so after about two hours we headed back to the van for snacks.

On our drive home, we spotted Country Maid Ice Cream and Orchard and had to stop for a treat. Well, it was noon so let’s call it what it was – lunch ;-). This ice cream parlor is a step back in time, complete with the iconic black and white tiled floors. The ice cream was tasty, and we enjoyed it on their deck that overlooked the orchard. Afterwards, we walked around back to a barn on the property that held all the orchard goodies that were for sale – fresh produce, honey, and cider!
