I’m pretty excited by the fall 2016 trends I’m seeing. But, since I’m sticking with my clothing capsule experiment, I don’t have any plans to do much shopping. True to the essence of building a clothing capsule, I was able to go out and get myself a new pair of jeans to replace the ones that no longer fit, and I found myself a new dress to wear to an upcoming wedding because I gave away my old options. But that will be it for my shopping. No looking for the latest and greatest piece. No searching for clothes to fit a certain trend. For me, it’s always about reworking old pieces in new ways. It’s about looking at current trends and then heading to your closest, not the mall, to make it work. (Make it work! Oh Tim Gunn.)
I enlisted the help of my friend and local fasionista, stylist, hairdresser, and all around stylish gal – Angie – to help me put together this post of fun ways to incorporate fall trends into your existing wardrobe. Take a look at the great, on-trend outfits we put together without out purchasing anything new.
fall trend: florals (think upholstery patterns) // Take your favorite summer skirt into the cooler seasons by pairing it with a graphic tee and layering a sweater over top. Accessorize with fun, chunky jewelry.
fall trend: peep toe booties // pair this season’s shoe with a flirty dress, moto jacket, and opaque tights.
fall trend: midi skirt length // wear your favorite graphic tank or tee with your midi skirt, tennies, and fall jacket. Or, for a casual twist, wear a chunky sweater instead of a jacket.
fall trend: camo // soften up the camo trend by pairing it with a jean skirt, cardi, and chocker. Pair with a menswear inspired shoe, which continues to be a big trend this season.
fall trend: trouser jeans // wear your wide legged jeans with your favorite button down and pointy toed shoes, heeled or flats. Have fun by mixing prints. Use last season’s blanket scarves to add interest and depth to your look!
fall trend: boyfriend jeans // take your espadrilles into the next season by pairing them with your boyfriend jeans, a blanket scarf, and a hat. Does this outfit not just scream, “I’m here and I’m ready to pick some apples?!?”
fall trend: layers // take a favorite summer top or dress and layer it over tights, leggings, or jeans for a cool weather look. Pair with peep toed shoes and moto jacket and you are ready for date night!
My fall essentials: distressed denim // espadrilles // chunky sweater
A huge shout out to Angie for helping me put together this post. With our closets combined, there’s no look we can’t create!
