Thursday Things I Love: Cold Walks, Hot Soup, and Fall Photos

this little buddy

It’s been fun to see Oliver’s personality start to really shine now that big brother is away at school during the day. He is talking up a storm, content to play for hours, and generally the biggest silly goose you’ve ever met.

I babysat for our neighbor recently and we all had so much fun baking up a storm.

Our final product. So yummy!

Beatrice and her daddy have a special relationship. She kicks her legs excitedly every time Mike walks into a room, and you better believe that Mike makes a bea-line (ha! pun ;-).) for his baby girl when he comes home. I love seeing them love each other.

A few people have made mention that my town looks like Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls in these fall photos. Uhhh. I wish! If only I could crawl inside that world and have a cup of coffee (or three) and become an official GG myself! These photos do look pretty great, though. Ohio knows how to do fall, that is for sure.

I took Theo with me to get some groceries last week and first, we had to make a pitt-stop for food. I’m not sure who eats more, pregnant Bekah or breastfeeding Bekah. Anyways. Theo ate and talked nonstop. I love taking him with me when we go out and about.

I got to attend another Sofar show in Cleveland and this time, my cousin Jarod went with me!

I think there is something so soothing about all the chopping and dicing and simmering that goes into making a pot of soup. It’s easy to get lost in the task and allow the cares of the day to just melt away.

We aren’t chicken noodle soup people when we get sick. I mean, I’m sure the boys would take it, but when we are feeling our worst, nothing perks us up like a steaming bowl of egg drop soup for them or hot and sour soup for me. I love the spice of the hot and sour soup – it works wonders to open up a stuffy head!

I bought an adult coloring book so that I can sit down with the kids and color with them. I discovered that they love it when I do this, and I have to say, I don’t mind breaking out the coloring pencils either!

I do have a filter on these photos, but mostly I just boosted the contrast. This is pretty much the exact sky color of the past few days/evenings. As I said, Ohio knows how to do fall. I’m so sad that winter is now pretty much upon us, but I plan on continuing to look for those glimmers of beauty, even in the cold. That can be difficult for me on the long, dark days of winter. What was it that Deborah Kerr’s character said in An Affair To Be Remembered? “Winter can be so cold for those with no warm memories…and we’ve already missed the spring!”

I’m trying to remember that sure, it might be cold and dark outside, but that simply gives me an opportunity create something warm and light on the inside – both literally and figuratively. I want to continue to look for the bright glimpses of beauty and love and goodness. I don’t want to miss it.
