Thursday Things I Love: New Opportunities, Refrigerator Pickles, and Little Shop Helpers

It’s been a funky week. Do you guys ever find yourself in a funk? That weird place where your emotions don’t quite know where to land? My husband and I had a wonderful time celebrating our eleventh anniversary this week, and bunch of really great things happened this week. And yet…blah. The funk. Why does that happen?

I Am Not A Cruise Ship Director

Dear Children,

Brace yourselves. This might come as a shock to you.

But I, your momma/mother/mom/lady who birthed you, am not a cruise ship director, and this ain’t no cruise.

I’m not in charge of balloon animals, or puppet shows.

Our family motto is not “the happiest place on earth.”

I don’t do magic, I don’t work miracles.

This is not Make A Wish Foundation. Continue reading “I Am Not A Cruise Ship Director”

DIY Coffee Body Scrub

Today I wanted to share with you a quick, easy, and inexpensive recipe for a DIY coffee body scrub. In fact, if you are a coffee drinker, I bet you already have most of these ingredients in your pantry!

This recipe comes together in a snap, smells unbelievable, and does a fantastic job of smoothing out those rough patches on your face and body, all while leaving it nicely moisturized. And let me tell you, if you use this in the shower, it basically makes your whole bathroom smell like Starbucks. Talk about a lovely way to start your day! Continue reading “DIY Coffee Body Scrub”

How We Celebrated Our 11th Anniversary

We celebrated our eleventh wedding anniversary this past weekend. Actually, we are still kind of celebrating. Mike ran out to get us a movie, so I’m furiously typing away to prepare this post for tomorrow so I can get to some homemade popcorn, a movie, and quality chill time with my guy.

Let me keep this simple.

Beatrice was with us for the morning and early afternoon, so we stayed local. We slept in. Mike made us breakfast. Then we hit up Sure House in downtown Wooster and checked out a new boutique. We ate at our favorite local restaurant for lunch.  Continue reading “How We Celebrated Our 11th Anniversary”

Five Things

1. Today, Mike and I celebrate being married for 11 years. We have known each other for 12. He is my husband, my baby daddy, my honey bunny, my weekend omelet maker, and my best friend.

2. My favorite thing about marriage? Man, that’s a tough one. So many things! But the thing I think I love the most is the unwavering, indisputable, non-negotiable belief that you have a person in your corner. Someone who believes is you. Someone who will fight for you. Someone who will hear you complain about how annoying your weekly grocery shopping trip was, and still think you’re sexy. Someone who shares their most intimate thoughts with you. Someone, who will always be there.

3. My least favorite thing about marriage? The guilt I feel over not sharing the last slice of pie or pizza, or last cup of coffee. Eleven years later, and it should be noted, I still eat the last piece. But that guilt man. It’s annoying! (Just get your own pie already.)

Sharing is hard.  Continue reading “Five Things”

Thursday Things I Love: New Hats, Summer Eats, and Theo’s First Slumber Party

Whew! We’ve been busy around here soaking up summer as much as we can. I try to not think about how fleeting these warm days are in Ohio. Must. Not. Think. About. Winter.

We’ve played hard, worked hard, and eaten a ton of great garden fresh food. Take a look! Continue reading “Thursday Things I Love: New Hats, Summer Eats, and Theo’s First Slumber Party”

Blueberry Picking With My Boys: A Summer Tradition

Last week, the boys and I set out on an adventure to find a new blueberry patch. I recently heard about a semi-local spot that grew no-spray blueberries and allowed you to come pick your own, so I loaded the directions onto my phone and the boys into our van, and off we went.

We drove through some beautiful country side full of picturesque Amish farms only to arrive 45 minutes later at a lovely looking blueberry patch with a not-so-beautiful “closed for the season” sign out front.

*insert forehead into palms*

Little kids don’t understand good intentions. All they understand is WE’VE BEEN IN THE VAN FOR HOOOOOURS, NOW GIVE US THE BLUEBERRIES OR WE ARE GOING TO TEAR THIS PLACE APART!

Or something like that.

So in my best adventurer voice, I told them that I had an even better spot in mind to pick blueberries, and isn’t this so much fun?

They weren’t convinced.

But 20 minutes later, we arrived at our old stand-by, a place that doesn’t make any fancy promises about “no-spray” and what not, but they were open and their berry bushes were loaded with blueberries.

I’ll take it.  Continue reading “Blueberry Picking With My Boys: A Summer Tradition”

Five Things

1.Ok. I’ll admit it. I’m allll aboard the high waisted jean trend. I can’t help it. I love my low-rise skinnies, but three babies later and I’m just like FOR THE LOVE, will you please just stay up already? I’m in the market for a new pair – one that I can wear on repeat and pair with a variety of styles of tops and shoes (livin that capsule wardrobe life). I’m looking at these jeans and these jeansDon’t let the name fool you, they are so cute! What do you think?  Continue reading “Five Things”

A Day With Grandpa

My brother and I spent the afternoon with my (maternal) grandfather the other day. We recently lost our grandmother, and wanted to get him away from the house for a bit to enjoy the pretty day, some good food, and a change of scenery.

My grandpa loves fish, and my favorite place for a great fish sandwich is TJ’s, a local Wooster restaurant. I told him where we were going when I picked him up.

“You mean Tom and Jack’s?” he said.

“I guess so,” I answered. “Is that what the initials stand for?”

He rolled his eyes. He can be sassy like that ;-). Continue reading “A Day With Grandpa”
