Favorite Fall Fashion Must-Haves

As I’ve been experimenting with my first clothing capsule, I’ve given more thought to what my favorite pieces are in terms of both clothing and accessories. While I had to narrow down my choices when I created the capsule wardrobe, I didn’t limit myself on shoes or accessories. I have, however, been taking note of of the items that I enjoy wearing the most and wear most frequently. The Sermon and the Tweet: A Tale of Becoming Fashionably Content

Last week, I saw a tweet from Michael Kors that read:

Think about wider pants, think about red lipstick, think about a messy top knot – think about something new.

Well, that really got me thinking.

Then on Sunday, I went to church and was surrounded by my very pretty, very trendy friends – all wearing brand new outfits. While I looked nice, my look was more, shall we say…classic? And by classic I mean I was wearing a skirt and sweater that I have had, no joke, since my freshman year of college. It is an outfit that is literally older than my marriage (I’ve been married almost 9 years).

I sat in my seat, thinking about how Michael Kors said my skinny jeans are now so last season, and looking around at all my friend’s updated wardrobes, and I started to feel a little sorry for myself.

But then, wouldn’t you know, our pastor shared a message with us about…money…and contentment…

So then I started thinking about how  silly it is to feel discontentment over, of all things, my wardrobe. I actually have a lot of really great clothes. And then I started thinking about the last part of Kors’ tweet: think about something new.

Right then and there, I issued myself a challenge. I was going to take some of 2014’s fashion trends and incorporate them into my outfits for the week without buying a single new item.

Each day this past week, I put together outfits that were fun, fresh, and on trend without a single purchase. And you know what? It actually wasn’t that difficult.
