Five Things

1. I keep telling my husband that maybe we just need to sell our house and our belongings, buy an RV, and take this show on the road. He could sell his beautiful woodworking from city to city across the US and it would be one heck of a way to see the country. Imagine the sights! Imagine what the kids would learn! (He says we already have one too-few bedrooms, but still…It would be an adventure!) This couple actually quit their jobs and traveled by VW bus from Alaska to Argentina. Hashtag inspiration!

2. My oldest son had his first night of testing and orientation for kindergarden this week. Whew. Talk about feeling all the feelings and thinking all the thoughts! My friend sent me this fascinating article that talks about how “Young children today continue to learn best by watching the everyday things that grown-ups do, from cleaning the house to fixing a car.” It’s a great read, especially for parents! Five Things

1. This week, I went to the movie theatre for a girls night with my good friend Sheila. I haven’t seen a movie in the theatre for yeeeeears! It was kind of the best thing ever. Date nights with your bestie are just the best, aren’t they?

2. Next week I’m going to make these delicious looking lavender cupcakes…using my home grown lavender! hashtag, excited.

3. My aunt is having  little get together tonight. I’m looking forward to seeing some family who is coming in from out of town. I plan on making this Roasted Butternut, Kale, and Cranberry Couscous salad. My friend made it for us last weekend and it’s delicious!  Continue reading “Five Things”

Five Things

1. My boys played in the rain last night and it brought so much joy to my heart to watch them run and play and get absolutely soaked and muddy. Some of my best and most vivid memories as a kid are of playing in the rain with my brother. Childhood can be so magical, especially when we don’t put the pressure on kids or ourselves to make it into something specific. Kids are masters at finding the fun.

2. I read this and it just kind of made me cry, especially this part:

“There’s no mirror in your way when you’re laughing and smiling and happiness is leaking out of you. You would know exactly how bright and beautiful you are if you saw yourself in the moments where you are truly yourself.”

Friday Five

1. I love traveling. My family and I don’t have a big vacation planned, but we do have a few short get-aways scheduled that we are all looking forward to. I’m usually fairly decent about not over-packing in the clothing department, but man oh man, I tend to take way to many accessories. I have a jewelry bag that I put everything in, but things still get pretty tangled up. I saw this clever trick for keeping your necklaces tangle free while you travel.

Now if anyone has any helpful ways to pack my ridiculous hat collection that I take everywhere, that’d be great…

2. Who has a good book recommendation? I just finished But Enough About Me, a funny and interesting nonfiction novel about Jancee Dunn’s experience as a writer for Rolling StoneContinue reading “Friday Five”

Friday Five

1. What are your thoughts on smoothies? Delicious or over-rated? I love a good smoothie, although I’m desperate for some new recipes. I made myself a blueberry smoothie and then threw up a blueberry smoothie every morning for my first trimester  with Beatrice.

I’m nothing if not persistent.

All that to say, I have no interest in drinking a blueberry smoothie. Like…ever. This Papaya Mint smoothie recipe sounds yummy, though, and I have the fresh mint growing on my patio! I might have to give it a try. Continue reading “Friday Five”

Five Things

Phew. It’s been a long, exhausting week. Here are five good things:

1. Here in Ohio, it’s been in the 80’s this past week. FINALLY!!! So…happy.

2. Today is my husband’s last day of school.

3. I repotted some of my house plants yesterday because, glory be, they are actually growing and doing well. It was the lone moment when Theo was settled and Oliver and Bea were sleeping, so I took the opportunity to refresh my spirit with a little plant and sunshine therapy.  Continue reading “Five Things”

Friday Five

1. I learned the coolest thing this week! Did you know the pine tips/buds on all pine trees are edible? Did you know they are also high in vitamin C? I didn’t! Well, now I do, and now you do too! Apparently you can eat the pine needles too, but I stuck to foraging the fresh green pine tips that were still tender and soft. Theo and I taste tested them right then and there, and I’ve got to tell you, the experience was pretty cool. Standing there in the sun, wearing Bea in my wrap and Oliver playing beside us, with the birds singing and Theo and I eating pine buds for goodness sake. Hashtag, is this even real life?

We took the buds inside and I immediately made Theo and I some pine tip tea with a little bit of honey. All pine trees taste differently, but the good ones taste bright and citrusy. The tree we have in our back yard – yet to be identified – had a bright pine taste and a subtle citrus aftertaste. It was dreamy. Continue reading “Friday Five”

Five Things

1. I’m not good with the in-betweens of life. I can be spontaneous and impulsive with the best of em, but it usually looks like jumping from one sure thing to the next. Right now, Mike and I are running full throttle into some huge transition, but nothing is settled as of yet which makes me feel craaaazy. I swing wildly from “This is such an awesome adventure!” to “Get me off of this crazy merry-go-round, NOW!!!”

I follow Lysa TerKeurst’s Proverbs 31 Ministry online, and today she had a free downloadable called “Five Things To Remember While You Wait On God.” One that particularly stuck out to me: When we obsess over things out of our control, it makes us act out of control.

Wow. Such a good reminder!

2. I saw these photos of Will and Kate’s place when they entertained President Obama and the First Lady recently. I loved seeing a glimpse into their home and personal style. How amazing would it be if, instead of your in-laws, you had the president over for Friday dinner? What a life. Continue reading “Five Things”

Five Things

1) I’ve really been enjoying the meal plan I made for this week. So far, everything I’ve made has been delicious! Most of my recipes are from the Minimalist Baker’s blog. It’s been fun to try new recipes and get out of my cooking rut.

2) This weekend we are kicking off some birthday celebrations for out oldest son. I can’t wait to surprise him with a few things that we have up our sleeves. I can’t wait to bake him a cake and sing to him. He is just a gift. I hope I can find ways over our life together to express to him just how honored I am to be his momma.  Continue reading “Five Things”

Five Things

Happy Friday, friends!

1. At my weekly visit to Aldi the other day, I was pleased to discover boxes of frozen macarons in their special buy isle. I got to try my first macaron this summer when we visited Savannah, Georgia and wow, let me tell you. Those little beauties live up to they hype. AMAZING. They were baked by a chef who trained with Julia Childs. (I know, right?!?) So of course, I wondered if Aldi could produce something similarly amazing.

Last night I tried two: lemon and pistachio (I’ll savor the lavender one last 😉 .) The verdict? The lemon macaron was just ehh. But the pistachio one was out of this world! I can’t wait to try the rest.  Continue reading “Five Things”
