I Am Not A Cruise Ship Director

Dear Children,

Brace yourselves. This might come as a shock to you.

But I, your momma/mother/mom/lady who birthed you, am not a cruise ship director, and this ain’t no cruise.

I’m not in charge of balloon animals, or puppet shows.

Our family motto is not “the happiest place on earth.”

I don’t do magic, I don’t work miracles.

This is not Make A Wish Foundation. Continue reading “I Am Not A Cruise Ship Director”

Thursday Things I Love: Babies On A Boat, Summer Eats, And A Toad Named Judy

Hey friends.

How is your summer going? I have to tell you, I’ve just been eating it up. Mike has been working from home. The boys have been playing outside every day. And I’ve been enjoying as much yoga/time in the sun/summer veggies/garden goodness as I can.

Here are a few things I’ve been loving lately: Continue reading “Thursday Things I Love: Babies On A Boat, Summer Eats, And A Toad Named Judy”

Friday Five

1. I love traveling. My family and I don’t have a big vacation planned, but we do have a few short get-aways scheduled that we are all looking forward to. I’m usually fairly decent about not over-packing in the clothing department, but man oh man, I tend to take way to many accessories. I have a jewelry bag that I put everything in, but things still get pretty tangled up. I saw this clever trick for keeping your necklaces tangle free while you travel.

Now if anyone has any helpful ways to pack my ridiculous hat collection that I take everywhere, that’d be great…

2. Who has a good book recommendation? I just finished But Enough About Me, a funny and interesting nonfiction novel about Jancee Dunn’s experience as a writer for Rolling StoneContinue reading “Friday Five”

Thursday Things I Love: Fields of Clover, Little Gardeners, and Food

Well. Summer was off to a great start here in Ohio, but now Summer seems to be going through some sort of identity crisis and thinks it’s Spring because it’s been cold and rainy around here lately.

Come on Summer! Tighten up!

It’s been a good week around here. Theo is fully recovered from his surgery, Mike and I are getting into a good summer schedule groove, and I’ve been doing yoga every day which has been like the best thing ever. Here are a few things I’m loving lately: Continue reading “Thursday Things I Love: Fields of Clover, Little Gardeners, and Food”

Things No One Tells You About Your Kid’s First Surgery

My oldest son had surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids two weeks ago. As per usual, it was yet another opportunity for me to be reminded that a) I know nothing and b) everything that I assume will be hard in parenting is nothing compared to the actual hard stuff. The stuff that I never could have imagined and am therefore completely unprepared for when it arrives.

Ah. Motherhood. Also known as The Perpetual Exercise in Humility.   Continue reading “Things No One Tells You About Your Kid’s First Surgery”

Five Things

1. My husband is home on summer break (he is a teacher). Instead of getting a part time job for the summer like he has in the past, though, he is striking out on his own. He created his own business, Basic Elements By Mike, back when Beatrice was born in November, and is taking this summer to give it 100% of his attention to see where it goes. It’s been fun having him work from home, and I’m so excited to see where this new venture takes him. He is truly a talented craftsmen, a creative designer, and all around one of the most talented people I’ve ever met.

2. Oh, you know me. I just love multi-tasking with my food; a little for my body, a little for my face! Seriously though, I once talked to someone who said she wouldn’t put anything on her body that she wouldn’t put in it. The point being that she wanted to be as diligent about keeping her skincare products free of synthetic, harmful ingredients as she was with her food. It makes sense to me. I love the idea of incorporating the items in my cupboard into my beauty routine! It’s simple, good for my body, and inexpensive. I enjoyed reading this article about 8 Ways You can Use Coconut Oil on your body. I’m going to give the hair treatment a try. I will not be using it as a face highlighter, however. Momma has enough shine as it is, thank you very much.  Continue reading “Five Things”

Thursday Things I Love: Sunshine, Good Food, & Little Joys

Sunshine has finally made it’s way to our corner of the world. Every day I keep waking up and half expecting to peek out our windows to see snow, but so far this week we’ve had glorious weather in the upper sixties. We have pretty rough winters here in Ohio, and this momma feels the wear and tear of being cooped up with her kids when it’s gray, gloomy, and cold outside. Summer is when we all come alive again! This week we ate dinner outside every night, the kids played outside daily, and we were able to celebrate our oldest’s birthday. It was a good week! Take a look at a few of my favorite things from this week. Continue reading “Thursday Things I Love: Sunshine, Good Food, & Little Joys”

A Little Bit About Me

I’ve picked up some new followers lately, so I thought I’d take the time today to share a little bit about myself.

-I have three kids. I’ve had a baby every other year for the past five years running. I need to start planning my next project before I get confused and have one more kid.

-I love live for coffee. The darker and stronger the better. I want my coffee to reach up and slap me. Incidentally, I’m not a morning person and would cease to function without said, strong coffee.

-My favorite dark roast at Starbucks is Gold Coast. My least favorite is Komodo Dragon. Let’s be real, Starbucks, and call a spade a spade, and a medium roast a medium roast.

-I don’t really have a favorite color. I’m an equal opportunity color appreciator.  Continue reading “A Little Bit About Me”
