Our New Favorite Day (and Our New Favorite Park)

We’ve been working on something new in our family.

Or, to be more specific, we’ve been working on not working, in our family. Continue reading “Our New Favorite Day (and Our New Favorite Park)” →

I might not know how to throw a bowling ball straight, but at least I got the stance down. šŸŽ³ Any night that includes Matisse, French fries, PBR, bowling AND live music is a good night. Mr. Shipper knows the way to my heart - a day full of fun with my favorite person on this earth. šŸ‘« #datenight #marriagerocks #cle #thisiscle #clevelandgram #mahalls20lanes #fridayvibes #clevelandartmuseum #love
So many thoughts are swirling in my brain tonight. But right now, I’m trying to quiet the mind and simply inhabit the body. It’s so incredible how much our bodies know. Our bodies have an intelligence that we try to overrule with our minds and overrun with our lifestyle or just plain overthrow with modern medecine. But denying our body’s intelligence doesn’t make it any less real. * It just makes it unrealized. * Over the past few years I’ve been amazed at what can happen when we let our bodies speak. Pregnancy has shown me that. And child birth. And then learning about Ayurveda and emotional intelligence and anxiety and generally starting to pay attention and grow up. It has all led me to the somewhat startling conclusion that my body has something to say. All we have to do is tune in, and do the work of paying attention. Then comes the hard part. * Trust. * The funny thing about listening to our bodies is that it naturally means, perhaps, that we won’t be listening to someone else. And this can put us in difficult situations. We might be told that we are stubborn or unwilling to listen which, in a way (for me) is true. I am a little stubborn when I know something deep within my bones. But it’s not true that i don’t listen. What I am, is learning how to filter out the things that don’t need to be heard. * I love to think and learn and turn an idea over and over in my head. But now...now I’m learning a new skill. I’m learning to listen, not just with my ears, but with my whole being. I’m learning to listen to the deep waters of both the creator and the created. Of the truth of my body. And the truth of my being. And the truth of my belonging. * I felt like swaying in my tree pose the other day. I wanted to root down with unshakable strength and then flow freely up and out of my head and hands and heart. I’m not sure what it means yet. But I’m listening. 🌳 #practicingpresence #present #embodiment #yoga #yogalove #homepractice #treepose #movement #personalpractice #yogainspiration #yogalife #love #bodypositive #writersofinstagram #feminine #womenempowerment #movingmeditation #faith
I’ve been throwing Valentine’s Day parties since I was in fourth grade. šŸ˜‚ I’ve never understood people’s cynicism over a holiday that is purely about loving on your people. I love having another reason to throw responsibilities to the side and gather some friends and celebrate life and love and all things heart shaped and covered in frosting. šŸ’ My sweet friend and I got our kids together this morning for our second annual homeschool Valentine’s party. We met @saltcreekcafe, an adorable coffee shop in Fredericksburg, and we drank coffee while our eight kids colored and passed out valentines and ate sugar cookies. šŸ’– @sylviaannbowman, I say we do this every year and keep right on going until the kids are out of the house. In about 18 years we can meet at a coffee shop or winery and celebrate in silence and remember how we used to be the moms, in the back of a quiet coffee shop, with our loud children jacked up on sugar crawling on the floors and climbing the walls. šŸ˜„ šŸ’˜ #motherhood #momsofinstagram #momlife #uniteinmotherhood #homeschoolingmoms #valentinesday #homeschoollife #momoffour #aintnohoodlikemotherhood #coffeeshop #localbusiness #drinklocal #ohiogram #adventuretime #twomomseightkidsandacoffeeshop
